The Choir of approximately 90 singers (soprano, contralto, tenor, bass) rehearses on Tuesday evenings 7.30 - 9.30 pm in Ayr Auld Kirk Halls and presents three concerts per year with a professional orchestra in Ayr Town Hall. Over the years they have achieved many notable successes, including one of the first amateur performances of 'the Steamie' in 1997, which played to packed houses at the Ayr Festival that year. The company gives all the free proceeds from its productions to Cancer Research, and to date has handed over in excess of £40,000. Activities : Productions twice a year in October and April. Activities : A series of six public concerts during the winter months - plus two informal evenings, for members only, when members themselves, local groups or young people provide the programme. Activities : Meets each Friday evening through the winter season in Alloway Village Hall. Meetings consist of informal discussion and constructive criticism of paintings submitted by artist members with a view to improving their existing techniques. There are also demonstration lectures by well-known professional artists, given subject evenings, and occasional tutor-led workshops. The Club holds a number of exhibitions each year. There are about 250 members, both individual and institutional, including universities and libraries throughout Scotland, in London and overseas. Vigorous publications programme, with several hundred articles and monographs to date, many by the society's own members.
